Are You a Slow Reader?
Children growing up in the Internet age view information in a different way, and that shift in mentality has impacted the way people read. I know I have felt it: As a kid, I could easily immerse myself in a book for hours without thinking anything of it, these days I feel an impulse to check my Twitter feed or email every so often to make sure I’m not missing out on the constant flow of information.
An article in The Christian Science Monitor asks the question “Should your child be learning the art of slow reading?” Check out the article to consider what is lost when we put greater importance on skimming through more content instead of savoring what we read. I’m as guilty of it as anyone, but I think the research is worth looking into.
