Colin Meloy Contracted to Write Children’s Book Series

According to The Independent, the lead singer of The Decemberists is going to write a three-book series for children. The books will be illustrated by his wife, who has illustrated album covers and a book for the Lemony Snicket series. Meloy’s series is described as “a classic tale of adventure, magic, and danger, set in an alternate version of modern-day Portland, Oregon.” The Decemberists’ albums tend toward the narrative, each song telling a part of the story, so I can see Meloy transitioning easily to novels. I tend to be skeptical of celebrity books, as I am of actors who suddenly have musical albums, but I am looking forward to seeing what this singer-songwriter comes up with.
