  • “All of the above” should be an option. 😉 But really I voted for sad girls pretty dresses, because so often those covers exist when they have NOTHING to do with the book at all. :/

    • All of the above could not be an option because then NOBODY would be forced to make the very difficult choices that life demands. (Even though it is really the correct choice…)

  • Get rid of the sad girls!! Especially the ones in prom dresses!!! That irks me to no end when a DYSTOPIAN novel has a cover like that. Um I’m pretty sure homegirl is having trouble taking a bath, let alone busting out her sequined ball gown.

  • AAAAH! I’m actually working on a seminar paper for my rhetorical theory class on visual rhetoric and young adult book covers. I’m thinking about possibly expanding it later and submitting it to a conference. While my actual paper topic at the moment is centering around the whitewashing problem, I’d LOVE to examine some more trends that I’ve been noticing (like the ones you listed above). I just find it so interesting, along with disturbing.
