If You Like Florence + The Machine

If You Like… is a feature highlighting blogger recommendations for books, authors, TV shows, movies, and music based on the things you already know and love. This week includes suggestions based on music by Florence + The Machine.

If you like Florence + The Machine, you might like…

.

Movies

Recommended by Ginger @ G Reads:

All of these movies feature tons of indie music on their soundtracks, which I believe inspired the “indie” feel for these movies. Florence and The Machines is considered an indie band and could easily be placed on any one of these film’s soundtracks.

TV Shows

Recommended by Ginger @ G Reads:

  • Grey’s Anatomy: Florence and The Machines has been featured on episodes of Grey’s before, so I automatically think of this show when I hear this music.
  • Felicity: This TV show was featured in the 1990’s, but I believe it to be one of the best! The music that was showcased on these episodes are very similar to Florence and The Machines – such as Sarah McLachlan, Ryan Adams, & Ray LaMontagne.
  • The Vampire Diaries: A popular TV show today that showcases indie music.
  • Pretty Little Liars: Another popular show that brings out today’s indie music scene.

Books

Recommended by Ginger @ G Reads:

All of these books hold a heavy, emotional feel for me. I correlate it to Florence and The Machines music because it gives me the same feelings. The expression of loss, grief, wonder, and growth are all common themes.

Recommended by Lindsi @ Books, Sweets, and Other Treats:

  • Nightshade by Andrea Cremer: I just finished reading the book, and I think the song “Howl” fits the book perfectly.

Music

Recommended by Ginger @ G Reads:

  • Imogen Heap
  • Band of Horses
  • Coldplay
  • David Gray
  • Duffy
  • Feist
  • The National
  • Joshua Radin
  • Lykke Li
  • MGMT
  • Nada Surf
  • Regina Spektor
  • Sia
  • Sigur Ros
  • Tegan & Sara

Recommended by Anna @ Anna Reads:

  • I Am Not a Robot” by Marina and the Diamonds: This song and Florence’s “Dog Days of Summer” are on constant rotation in my house.

Recommended by Kate @ Literary Explorations:

  • Adele
  • Ellie Goulding
  • Duffy

Recommended by Lindsi @ Books, Sweets, and Other Treats:

  • 30 Seconds to Mars
  • Flyleaf
  • Bat for Lashes

  • Haha I had to stop myself from making a playlist 😛 There was a lot of music that made me think of Florence and the Machine. And it definitely works for Nightshade!

Oh! I know you don’t want The Vampire Diaries Mel, but they occasionally use their songs.

  • It is official. I LOVE your blog! And, of course, I love Florence. Great post, it is very original. I have to say that your blog is my favorite one. I’m new with all the Blog and Goodreads stuff (I only had twitter at the begining) and it is very difficult to make your way through, and have some feedback from other people. I hope some day I’ll have the amazing followers you have:). Keep up the great work!!

  • Well I just think that some of these are just perfect. Sadly, enough the twilight eclipse soundtrack introduced me to Florence and the Machine. But I love her, and I fell in love with every song on the soundtrack. Almost every artist mentioned is on the cd. It shows you that things that you may hate, like twilight can bring you good things.

  • I know that Florence is a big fan of poetry and writes her lyrics like poems. Does anyone know of any poets or poetry collections that have a similar feel to her lyrics? I would love to read some!
