IMM (6)

In My Mailbox is a meme hosted by The Story Siren. Participants share the books they received for the week.

Received from Paperback Swap:

  • Second Helpings and Charmed Thirds by Megan McCafferty: These were sent from Alaska and delivered by carrier penguin. It took forever for them to get here, but I’m very excited to continue with the Jessica Darling series now that they’ve arrived. I will probably have to buy the fourth and fifth books if my PBS wish for them doesn’t get fulfilled soon.
  • The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl by Barry Lyga: This book was recommended in an If You Like post and it sounded like something I would enjoy. I’m a little sad that the package arrived looking like USPS had been throwing it up against some walls or something, but not much I can do about that.
  • Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre: This book was recommended to me by Heidi Ayarbe and the synopsis really intrigued me. It was a recipient of the Man Booker Prize, but not one I’d heard much talk about. Looking forward to giving it a try!

Won in Twitter giveaways:

  • So Much Closer by Susane Colasanti: I was ridiculously overwhelmingly excited to win this ARC. I have all of Colasanti’s other books, and got them all signed when she was on tour in Canoga Park, CA last year. It was the first book signing I went to as a blogger, so it holds kind of a special place for me. I’m glad that I now have her next book signed so that it won’t feel out of place in my collection, and I’m sure I’m going to love reading it.
  • The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly: Tahleen of Tahleen’s Mixed-Up Files did a Twitter giveaway based on Newberry winners and honor books. I chose The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate as my prize, and it turns out Tahleen had just bought it, too. Apparently it was a popular pick. This book is gorgeous, and I’m hoping it will live up to its award.

Not pictured:

  • XVI by Julia Karr: I just received this from Around the World Tours, so I need to finish up the book I’m reading quickly and make sure I can finish this one on time. This looks like a pretty dark, dystopian read, so I’m glad that I’ll have had a chance to read some slightly lighter books since finishing hidden. Not sure I could handle reading those back to back.

What did you get in your mailbox this week?

  • You got a nice assortment of books. XVI is on my TBR stack too. I know what you mean about looking for something lighter after a dark book. Happy reading!

  • Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings were incredible, but I just couldn’t get into Charmed Thirds.
I also got a Susane Colasanti book this week, Take Me There, and I can’t wait to read more of her!
    Nice mailbox:D

  • You’ll have to let me know how Fanboy and Goth Girl is. . . i recently read Hero Type by Lyga and was really impressed. i’m wondering if he’s going to be one that i need to read everything he’s ever written. As far as XVI, you can read my review if you haven’t, it was dark but not as dark as i was expecting.

    • Will do!

I have Hero Type and Boy Toy, too, but haven’t read either yet.

I don’t remember if I read your review of XVI, so I’ll have to go double check. I’m excited to read it, though a little sad that it is interrupting my Jessica Darling marathon. Can’t control tour book timing.

  • OMG CARRIER PENGUIN?! I’m imagining that and thinking about how cute and unbearably frustrating a carrier penguin service would be.

The Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl’s title is one of my favorite titles I’ve read in awhile. We need more “adventures of” I love adventure in YA. And creative titles.

I love the Calpurnia Tate cover, too. Happy reading!

  • Woohoo for more Jessica Darling! I just picked up Second Helpings from the library but it will probably be a little bit before I can read it 🙁 And that’s awesome you won those Twitter giveaways – I never win anything lol.

  • I officially declare last week Jessica Darling Week, because EVERYBODY got them. I am 100% in support of this movement. Also, SUPER ironic because the author’s birthday was last week!! 🙂 congrats on awesome books and your winnings!!
