In Which I Am Still Alive

My blogging has been sporadic for the summer, but I am still alive, and I think I’ll be back into the swing of things soon!

Wiki and I had a great summer in CA. We both loved visiting family and friends, eating way too much delicious food, and relaxing in the beautiful weather. I didn’t spend much time reading or being online because it just didn’t feel like the best use of my limited time out there.

Migrating back to NY from CA turned out to be a dramatic experience. Due to weather complications, Wiki couldn’t travel as originally scheduled, so we had to be flexible and make some new plans. We ended up with an extra (hectic) day in LA, but sadly no time to see a lot of the people I’d hoped to visit in the DC area before I had to return to work. Thankfully, Wiki was a wonderful traveler, even though I think she was a bit upset to leave her grandparents and their amazing swimming pool behind.

We are now back in NY and all moved into the new house. Things are going pretty well here. I’m unpacked, and the bookshelves are very full. Wiki has a full-time friend (an 11 month old puppy with even more energy than she possesses). Classes at work start up in another week, so that should keep me pretty busy. I’m also looking forward to attending a book group for adult readers of YA at my local Indie in another couple weeks–keep your fingers crossed that other (cool) people show up.

In general, normalcy and routine are returning to our lives, and that’s hopefully going to allow me to return to reading and blogging in a more regular way. I think the little break has been good for me, but I have missed all my blogging friends, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with everybody in the coming weeks.

Since I have been out of the bookish loop, I could use some help filling in the gaps:

  • What are some upcoming books that I MUST add to my wish list?
  • What are some “If You Like…” topics that you would like to see covered as I plan the next few weeks of posts?
  • Did any exciting new bloggers join the blogosphere this summer that I need to know about?
  • What have YOU been up to this summer?

  • We’ve missed you!! Glad you had a good time in Cali! I’ve been the same way..I have been abandoning Twitter and blogging because the summertime is just too damn nice to waste it on the computer! Glad to have you back! 🙂

    • Glad you’re enjoying your summer, too! Makes me feel better that some other people have been taking a bit of a summer break 🙂

  • Welcome home Melanie! I missed you! Glad to hear that you enjoyed your time spent in CA with the parents. I am jealous of your pool time 😉 I’m sure Wiki misses it.

I am not sure which books you’ve read recently, but if you haven’t yet – I HIGHLY recommend you picking up Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. That book seriously blew my mind! Also, I thought Lola was a superb YA contemp for this year. It definitely lived up to all the hype.

    • I have Shatter Me from BEA (well, I will have it again soon when the rest of my books arrive from CA–they are en route). I really want to read Lola. If anybody can hook me up with a copy, I’ll be all over that one. If not, it will definitely be a must buy when it comes out!
