Incorrect Cover Art

I ordered a bunch of books from Barnes and Noble the other day because they were having a great bargain sale. I needed to get up to $25 for free shipping, of course, so I also bought Dodie Smith’s Capture the Castle because I had heard from several people that it is like God’s gift to the literary world and I need to read it. When the book arrived, it had a hideous cover, unlike that displayed anywhere on the website. I’m strongly considering going to the local B&N to see if they have a copy with the nice, pretty cover I saw online to swap it out. Am I psychotic, or are you also a little picky about your books’ appearances?

  • Yah, that would bother me. I’d probably complain.

  • it is a def go-back. It drives me nuts just to have a new book that has a crease or scratch!

  • I went to the store and they only had the ugly cover, so I just returned it for now. It isn’t available for my Nook, sadly, so I’ll just have to wait and try to buy the prettier cover another time.

  • As a self-proclaimed cover whore I feel you 100%!

I am curious as to what cover you got. When I wrote my review for this book (that I read in 2000 or so) I had to search for the cover of the book I actually own online. I don’t like to post a cover that doesn’t match the BOOK I actually read. Picky picky!

    My cover was this one.

  • Thank you Cat! That review helped me feel a little less crazy 🙂

I got this cover. There were two cover images on the website when I ordered, and neither one looked like that. They both showed pretty images of girls and a castle, and neither one looked like the movie cover. I didn’t see the edition that you read available, though.

I generally try to match the cover image I post with the book that I read, too.

  • You´re not psychotic! Oh, I hate when they to this… display a cover in the website and deliver another one. I think you should complain, of course 🙂

Usually I search books by ISBN trying to avoid this problem…
