Review: Tangled

Jena, Dakota, Skye, and Owen are all at Paradise—the resort in the Caribbean, that is—for different reasons, but in Paradise their lives become tangled together in ways none of them can predict. Over the course of four months, through four voices and four stories, what happened in Paradise will change them all. –From Goodreads

Mackler’s Tangled explores the ways in which paths cross, lives become tangled together, secrets are revealed, and friends falls in love. What happens during Spring Break on Paradise does not stay in Paradise. Carolyn Mackler is skilled at portraying characters who appear confident and strong, but reveal deep inner flaws, while those who appear weak develop admirable inner strength. My expectations for this book were low. I couldn’t imagine a book about a resort in Paradise being anything but a light, mindless read. As with Mackler’s characters, one can’t make judgments based on appearances; this book was better and deeper than I anticipated.
