Waiting on Wednesday: Love and Other Perishable Items

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Summary from Amazon:

Love is awkward, Amelia should know.

From the moment she sets eyes on Chris, she is a goner. Lost. Sunk. Head over heels infatuated with him. It’s problematic, since Chris, 21, is a sophisticated university student, while Amelia, 15, is 15.

Amelia isn’t stupid. She knows it’s not gonna happen. So she plays it cool around Chris—at least, as cool as she can. Working checkout together at the local supermarket, they strike up a friendship: swapping life stories, bantering about everything from classic books to B movies, and cataloging the many injustices of growing up. As time goes on, Amelia’s crush doesn’t seem so one-sided anymore. But if Chris likes her back, what then? Can two people in such different places in life really be together?

Through a year of befuddling firsts—first love, first job, first party, and first hangover—debut author Laura Buzo shows how the things that break your heart can still crack you up.

Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo will be released by Knopf Books for Young Readers on December 11, 2012.

There’s a little-known fact that the water in Australia is imbued with magical creative properties. Much of my favorite tv, music, and reading material has been created by Australians. Whatever they’re doing over there, they are doing it right. Maybe it has something to do with living in a land that finds a balance between adorable joeys and some of the most terrifying, lethal creatures in the world.

Ahem, anyway, Buzo’s book was previously released as Good Oil, but has been renamed for the US edition. I’m so excited that this book is going to be available in America, and I hope that it means Buzo’s second book will become available as well because I desperately want to read it.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

  • This synopsis intrigues me! I like the whole “forbidden love” aspect. 🙂 Perhaps it’s also something to do with the fact that my husband and I are six years apart..? Though I was 19 & he was 25 when we met, so not illegal like in this case, but still! Thanks for sharing. 🙂 A couple of my most eagerly anticipated books: Seraphina, My Life Next Door, Between the Lines, Freaks Like Us.

  • I managed to get my hands on an Australian copy of this one and it was really great. Laura Buzo is definitely a name to watch with regard to YA lit/new adult lit. Hope you enjoy it when it finally gets released here in the U.S.
